Helpmann Awards: Just one woman recognised among 12 best director nominations

The Helpmanns are Australia's answer to Broadway's Tony Awards, covering live performing arts across the country.

Melbourne Theatre Company [MTC] associate director Sarah Goodes is nominated as best director for the acclaimed anti-nuclear play The Children, which is a co-production between the MTC and the Sydney Theatre Company.

South Australia continues to enjoy the legacy of generous arts funding across the decades.

The 18 nominations earned by productions in the state were boosted by the premiere of a new opera based on Hamlet, directed by Adelaide festival director Neil Armfield and composed by Brett Dean.

FIRST he sold the hotel and resort company he turned into a billion-dollar empire, now he’s selling his Gold Coast home. Outgoing Mantra Group CEO Bob East has listed his Sorrento mansion on the market for $3.995 million just weeks after announcing his departure from the business he floated. Mr East plans to stay on as Tourism Australia chairman and will take on a new board, chairing Wollongong-based Experience Co, a listed adventure tourism and leisure company with market capitalisation of $355 million. AFL star finds buyer for luxury Gold Coast home

AFL star Gary Ablett has finally had a win in the property game, with his Gold Coast riverfront estate going under contract. The four-bedroom, four-bathroom house at Ashmore was last advertised for $1.795 million through Danny Stanley of Kollosche Prestige Agents. The home offers 65 metres of river frontage with a floating pontoon on the Nerang River. It comes at the same time as a Geelong home once belonging to his father, Gary Ablett Sr, has also sold.
